I studied socioeconomics and brand sociology at the University of Hamburg and psychology at the University of Lyon. After graduating, I worked for many years at the Institute for Brand Technology in Geneva, focusing on brand management and brand strategy for global companies. I then spent a short time working in the Bundestag’s records office in Berlin. Still impressed by the power of the brand and its socio-economic dynamics—which were largely unknown in Europe at the time—I was eventually drawn back to the business world.


I worked in advertising agencies and companies as a strategist and marketing director. In 2006, I founded the research and consulting firm Büro für Markenentwicklung in Hamburg. At the same time, I head the innovation lab at Deutsche Seereederei.


In 2018, I was appointed to the world’s first professorship in brand sociology at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. In addition, I teach at the University of Hamburg, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, and EMBA Hamburg.
